An independent prescribing service allows qualified healthcare professionals, like pharmacists, to independently assess patients, diagnose conditions, and prescribe medications, without the need for a doctor's referral.

We currently provide an Independent Prescribing Minor Illness Clinic alongside the NHS Common Ailments Service. Patients can be assessed in the pharmacy and, where clinically appropriate, treatment can be supplied or prescribed without the need for a GP appointment.
Conditions we can assess include:
- Sore throat and tonsillitis
- Ear infections and ear pain
- Sinusitis
- Urinary tract infections
- Impetigo
- Chest infections and acute respiratory symptoms
- Skin infections and inflammatory skin conditions
- Gout
- Hay fever and allergic rhinitis
- Conjunctivitis and minor eye conditions
- Oral thrush and other minor oral conditions
- Vaginal thrush
- Emergency contraception
- Head lice
- Threadworm
- Scabies
- Athlete's foot and fungal skin infections
- Cold sores
- Other conditions covered by the NHS Wales Common Ailments Service
Where a patient's presentation falls outside the pharmacy service or requires further investigation, they will be referred to the appropriate GP or urgent care service within an appropriate timeframe.
